The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has inked a pact with Urban Horticulture Solutions based in Goraya, District Jalandhar, for licensing of Rooftop Vegetable Nutrition Garden Model using Soil-less Media Technology.
The company listed ten vegetables like tomato, bell pepper, cucumber, coriander, broccoli, spinach, pea, lettuce, fenugreek and chinni sarson are being grown using this technology and with staggered sowing/transplanting , the vegetables would be available round the year.
Dr K.S. Thind, Additional Director of Research, PAU, and. Damanpreet Singh signed the Memorandum of Agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. Dr Gursahib Singh, Additional Director of Research of PAU congratulated the proprietors of Urban Horticulture Solutions for disseminating technologies developed by PAU at the field level.
Dr. KG Singh, Senior Research Engineer-cum-Head, and Dr, Angrej Singh, Assistant Agronomist, Department of Soil and Water Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University, informed that PAU is pioneer in the development of rooftop/terrace vegetable nutrition garden model for urban and peri-urban population using soil-less media. The technology was developed under All India Coordinated Research Project on Plasticulture Engineering and Technology operating in the Department of Soil and Water Engineering, PAU.
The technology requires only 12.6 sq m (net area = 4.2 m x 3.0 m) and gross area of 20 sq m (5.5 m x 3.6 m); the vegetables thus produced will be sufficient for a family of 2-4 persons. It may be mentioned that PAU has signed seven memorandum of understanding for the commercialization of this technology with the industry.
Dr. SS Chahal, Consultant (Scientific), Technology Marketing and IPR Cell informed that PAU has signed 225 MoAs and commercialized 53 technologies including hybrid lines of mustard, chilli, brinjal and varieties, Trichoderma, bio-fertilizers, leaf colour chart, forced circulation solar dryer, low alcoholic naturally carbonated beverage, sugarcane juice bottling, water testing, lucky seed drill, PAU Cutter-cum-Spreader, PAU Super SMS, Vegetable washing machine, Honey heating-cum-filtration technologies, etc.
