urpreet Singh Nibber gets award for excellence in journalism in agricultural research and development
Country’s premier institution working in the field of agriculture research, development and dissemination of information, ‘the Indian council for agricultural research’ (ICAR) has conferred Gurpreet Singh Nibber Assistant Editor with the Hindustan Times with Chaudhary Charan Singh Award for excellence in journalism in agricultural research and development.
Special stories, articles and features Nibber wrote on important areas in agriculture dealt includes food security, need for agricultural reforms, to make farming a viable, crop residue management, efficient water utilization, and a range of other issues. The stories and articles, on agriculture published by Nibber are widely referred not only by the farming fraternity but the academicians and policy planners as well.
The awards were given in other categories also by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Narendra Singh Tomer, to recognize and incentivize sincere efforts for ensuring positive change towards sustainability and clean environment. The awards were announced on July 22, in 92nd Foundation Day of the ICAR on July 16, 2020.
Narpinder Singh gets Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Krishi Puruskar

Narpinder Singh is an incubatee of Punjab Agri Business Incubator, running under Skill Development Centre, Directorate of Extension Education, the Punjab agricultural university (PAU). He got selected under UDAAN- Cohort I in 2019 and underwent two-months training programme, held at Skill Development Centre of PAU.
During the programme, he received training in business, marketing and technical aspects of agri start-up, and also participated in various exhibitions and events to promote his product.
In 2020, he registered his company as Dhaliwal Honey Bee Farm private limited working on cream honey (Crystallized Honey). He is also serving as the President of Progressive Beekeepers Association, PAU, and has been committed to help farmers to get fair price of honey.
Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Award for Dr. Sanjeev Chauhan
Dr Sanjeev Chauhan, Head, Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has been awarded “Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Award” for his outstanding research in tribal farming systems.
Dr Chauhan and team of two other scientists focused on improving livelihood of people through scientific interventions, transfer of modern but socially acceptable technologies for enhanced productivity and widening the basket of food crops.
Farmers were trained in crop diversification, package of practices for cereal and fodder crops, weed management, quality fruit production and plant protection measures. Awareness camps on crop diversification, orchard management, sanitation, animal health and community seed bank were also organized.
Swachchta Abhiyan was popularized in villages and about 1,180 family individuals were benefitted. Different farming tools were also distributed among 196 families. This is probably the first award to the PAU scientist for his contribution in the tribal area.
Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU; Dr JS Mahal, Director of Extension Education; and Dr TS Riar, Associate Director, Skill Development, congratulated Mr Narpinder Singh for receiving such a prestigious award in the field of agriculture and allied sectors. They also congratulated Dr Chauhan for this achievement.
